How do you usually get to work? How long have you been using this travel option?
Most days I take the bus. I’ve been taking the bus for at least 10 years now.

How far is your trip? How long does it take you each way?
I live in Camas which is about 12 miles one way. The bus ride is about 15-20 minutes – direct route on the freeway with no stops!

What made you decide to get to work this way?
I don’t have to drive in traffic – and therefore able to read on the bus, save miles on my vehicle, and save gas money. I only spend half as much on gas now by taking the bus.

What do you enjoy about your taking the bus?
I love reading on the bus – also the friendships with others that ride the bus on a regular basis.

Do you have any interesting stories from your trips?
One of our first morning drivers got to know us and always joked around with our group. We still miss him.

Do you think you save money by traveling this way?
Definitely. I continue to have low miles on my car and spend half as much on gas! Plus we get a subsidized monthly bus pass! I can’t think of a reason not to take the bus!

How does your employer help accommodate your travel style?
As long as I ride 60% of the month, I get a monthly subsidized bus pass. I’m happy to oblige.

What would you say to your fellow employees to inspire them to try using a trip option other than driving alone in their car?
At least try it. You get so many savings, gas money, low miles on your car, and fun people to ride with. Let someone else drive in the traffic while you read or surf the internet. Typically, I get to work five minutes before 8am and the bus leaves to go back home at 5:15pm. So, it fits perfectly into a daily schedule.
