How do you usually get to work?
I either drive or ride my bike.
Why did you decide to commute this way?
I decided to bike as a no-drive way to commute because it is a good way to get some cardio fitness in. Also, I enjoy biking and the route I take to work is peaceful and refreshing.
How long have you been using this commute option?
I have been commuting this way since we were allowed back into the office after covid.
How far is your commute? How long does it take you each way?
My commute is about 8 miles and is about a 35min bike ride.
What is your favorite thing about your commute?
I enjoy the morning rides. I enjoy knowing that I am getting some cardio in for that day.
What is a challenge of your commute? How have you overcome that challenge?
The only real challenge was early on and figuring out the best route to bike to get to work.
Tell us a favorite or interesting commute story.
Every now and again I will wear a superhero compression shirt on my commute bike ride. It’s always interesting to see people reaction and sometimes comments.
How does your commute help you save time and/or money?
It’s saves considerable money on gas. As we have 2 SUV’s biking allows less trip to the gas station.
How does your employer help accommodate your commute option?
The good thing about where I work is that they have a locker room that allows me to shower and freshen up when I get to the office. Also, City of Vancouver has looked to compensate those non drive commuters so that helps as well.
Do you have any advice for someone looking to use a climate-friendly commute option?
I bike because I enjoy is and it adds to my over all fitness. Try to find a commute option that you enjoy doing and or benefits you. For me it’s biking. For others it may be the bus. Whatever fits your situation.
